he had to work his way through the college.He was a janitor and he could not bear the humiliation, so he left

Due to F. Scott Fitzgerld's grades and extracurricular activites at Princeton, he did what any gentleman  would do at the time. He dropped out of Princeton and joined the Military. He hoped to go to war, the war was over before he got a chance.
