The waxing of the moon can be noticed when the moon appears larger each night. A waxing moon has two phases, namely a waxing crescent and a waxing gibbous. During a waxing crescent, a thin crescent in the west part of the moon is visible. This indicates that the moon travels east in the sky. On the contrary, a waxing gibbous occur when more than half of the moon is visible. This indicates that the moon is almost halfway through its cycle.
