In the gift shop of the History of Flight museum, Elisa bought a kit to make a model of a jet airplane. The actual plane is 21 feet long with a wingspan of 17.5 feet. If the finished model will be 10.5 inches long, what will the wingspan be?

21feet×12=252inches
252inches/10.5inches=24
17.5feet×12inches=210inches
210inches/24=8.75inches

the wingspan of the model is 8.75 inches

Answer:

8.75 inches

Explanation:

We are given that Elisa bought a kit to make a model of a jet airplane

The length of actual plane=21 feet

The length of wingspan in actual plane =17.5 feet

In the model

Length of airplane=10.5 inches

We know that 1 foot=12 inches

Length of actual plane=
21*12=252 inches

Length of wingspan in actual plane=
17.5* 12=210 inches

If a length of plane is large then length of its wingspan is large and if a plane is short then its wingspan is short also.

It is directly proportional

if x is directly proportional to y

Then ,x=ky

k=(x)/(y)

Let x be the length of wingspan in model

Then, using directly proportional property

(252)/(210)=(10.5)/(x)

x=(10.5* 210)/(252)

x=8.75

Hence,length of wingspan in model=8.75 inches
