An illegal alien refers to a person who has taken up residence in a country not of their birth by illegal means and they are committing a criminal offence by doing so. A legal alien refers to a person who has obtained the correct documentation and gone through the correct legal channels to allow them to have residence in a country not of their birth.

The difference between them is that an illegal alien is someone who is illegal and a legal alien is someone who is legal , when someone is considered as an illegal alien it means that this person doesn't have the correct legal documentation or this person violated the terms of documentation.
