A turtle can speed up, like when it wakes up and starts walking. It can also slow down and stop walking. And it can turn and walk in a different direction. These three actions are all changes of velocity, so they're all the forms of acceleration.

Acceleration is defined as having a changing velocity. So, when the tutrle is moving from 0 m/s to 2.8 m/s (An average speed for a Leatherback sea turtle) it accelerated because it changed it's velocity. So, yes. Turtles can accelerate.
