According to my dictionary gametes means " a mature sexual reproductive cell, as a sperm or egg, that unites with another cell to form a new organism." hopefully this works

Eggs or ova are female gametes and sperms are male gametes. Gametes are haploid in nature as they are formed by meiosis, which leads to formation of haploid daughter cells from diploid parent cell.

Male and female gametes fuse together by the process of fertilization to form zygote that develops into multicellular organism.
