Notice that we have a right triangle drawn on the diagram, then, we can assume that the length of the point is the hypotenuse of the triangle, so we can use the pythagorean theorem to find this lenght:


\begin{gathered} XY=\sqrt[]{36^2+14^2}=\sqrt[]{1296+196}=\sqrt[]{1492}=38.6\approx39 \\ XY=39m \end{gathered}

therefore, the length of the pond from point X to point Y is 39 meters
