The answer is 5 7/12, here's why:

First convert the mixed numbers into improper fractions to make it simpler to deal with.

1 5/12 = 17/12
4 1/6 = 25/6

Now make them equivalent.

17/12 can stay the same,
25/6 can become 50/12

Now it's just 17/12 + 50/12
Just add the numerators!
17/12 + 50/12 = 67/12

All we have to do from here is simplify 67/12.
12 goes into 67 5 times, with a remainder of 7.
5 becomes the whole number, and our fraction is the remainder (7) over 12.

So 67/12 = 5 7/12.
This is as simplified as the answer can get.

Hope this helps!
