Light travels at a rate of 3.0 x 108 meters per second. If the earth is 1.5 x 1011 meters away from the sun, how long does it take for light to travel from the sun to the earth?

I am assuming you mean 3.0 *10^8 and 1.5 * 10^11.

time = distance/speed right. So,
t = 500 s

Answer:

It takes 500 seconds

Explanation:

Light travels at a rate of 3.0 ×
10^(8) meters per second.

Distance of earth from the sun is 1.5 ×
10^(11) meters.

We have to calculate the time it takes to reach the earth from sun

Since speed =
(Distance)/(Time)

3.0 ×
10^(8) =
(1.5* 10^(11))/(T)

T =
(1.5* 10^(11))/(3* 10^(8))

= 0.5 ×
10^(11) ×
10^(-8)

= 0.5 ×
10^(11-8)

= 0.5 ×
10^(3)

= 500 seconds.

It takes 500 seconds for light to travel from the sun to the earth.
