The plans or an apartment complex were laid out on the first quadrant of a coordinate plane. The complex will have two postal delivery centers. One center is located at (1, 5), and the other is located at (10, 17). If each grid unit equals 100 yards, how far apart are the postal delivery centers?

Explanation:

Distance between two coordinates is expressed as;

D = √(x2-x1)²+(y2-y1)²

Given the coordinates (1,5) and (10, 17)

D = √(10-1)²+(17-5)²

D = √(9)²+(12)²

D = √81+144

D= √225

D = 15 units

Since 1 unit = 100yards

15 units = x

x = 15(100)

x = 1500 yards

Hence the delivery centres are 1500yards apart
