So, the absolute value of a negative number and the same number in positive terms is the same.

Imagine a number line with zero in the middle, and numbers stretching out negative on one side and positive on the other. Measure out "3" on your number line in each direction. So, -3 and 3.

The absolute value of each of those — its distance from zero — is the same.

Does that make sense?
