Use the y2-y1/x2-x1 formula for the rate of change. So -2-0/4- - 7 answer should be -2/11

  • Slope Formula:
    \displaystyle m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

Explanation:

Step 1: Define

Point (-7, 0)

Point (4, -2)

Step 2: Find slope m

Simply plug in the 2 coordinates into the slope formula to find slope m

  1. Substitute in points [SF]:
    \displaystyle m=(-2-0)/(4--7)
  2. [Fraction] Simplify:
    \displaystyle m=(-2-0)/(4+7)
  3. [Fraction] Subtract/Add:
    \displaystyle m=(-2)/(11)
