What is an advantage of portrait orientation for portrait photography (photos of people)?

Since human body is shaped from bottom to up, portrait mode is done in the same way. The body style of the human would stay the same since it doesn't stretch the body parts like landscape orientation would do. But, if we look at animals, a tigers body goes from left to right. So, landscape orientation would be best for that animal. As you see, portrait mode doesn't greatly impact the persons body shape and details while landscape stretches it out
