9) (x,-8) and (1,0); slope -8/3

10) (-9,9) and (x,4); slope: -1/2

9) -8/3 = -8-0 / x - 1

so x = 4

10) -1/2 = 9-4 / -9-x
-1/2 = 5 / -9-x
9+x = 10
x = 10-9 = 1
