First multiply both sides of the equation by
4
, to get

by itself. Then you subtract

from both sides to get the integer by itself. So your answer should be

x/4 + 12 = 5
to isolate the variable the first step is to subtract 12 from both sides
x/4 + 12 - 12 = 5 - 12
x/4 = -7
next, to get rid of the division by 4, multiply both sides by 4
(x/4)*4 = -7*4
x = -28
