I have been working all morning on this question and still I don't have the answer to it. What is 2 and 2/4 + 3 and 2/4?

Answer: 2 and 2/4 + 3 and 2/4 = 1.

Explanation:

in these type of problems you need to add separately the whole and rational parts:

(2 and 2/4) + (3 and 2/4) = (2 + 3) and (2/4 + 2/4)

= 5 and 4/4

but 4/4 = 1

And also remember that the "and" is equivalent to a "+" sign, then:

5 and 4/4 = 5 + 1 = 6

Then:

2 and 2/4 + 3 and 2/4 = 1.
