Let x = Number of nickels , y = Number of quarters

As per given , we have

x+ y= 32 (i)

0.05x+0.25y= 5.20 (ii)

Multiply (ii) by 4 , we get

0.2x+y = 20.8 (iii)

Subtract (iii) from (i) , we get

0.8x = 11.2

$\Rightarrow\ x=(11.2)/(0.8)\\\\\Rightarrow\ x = 14$

Put value of x in (i) , we get

y =32-14 = 18

Hence, we have 14 nickels and 18 quarters.
