you can first convert everything to ounces and then subtract, when you get your answer convert it back to lbs.
*16 oz = 1 lb
12 lbs 5 oz = 197 oz
7lbs 10 oz = 94 oz
197 - 94 = 103
103/16
= 4 lbs and 7 oz
