A cylinder shaped container has a radius of 30 cm and a height of 100 cm. A glass sphere with a radius of 12 cm is placed inside the cylinder shaped container and then the container is completely filled with water.

What is the approximate volume of water contained in the cylinder?

Use 3.14 as an approximation for pi.

7,235 cm³
28,260 cm³
204,715 cm³
275,365 cm³

Answer:
275,365\ cm^3

Explanation:

For cylinder,

Height = 100 cm

Radius = 30 cm

The volume of cylinder is given by :-

\text{Volume}=\pi r^2h\\\\\Rightarrow\text{Volume}=(3.14)(30)^2(100)\\\\\Rightarrow\text{Volume}=282600\ cm^3

For sphere,

Radius = 12 cm

The volume of sphere is given by :-

\text{Volume}=(4)/(3)\pi r^3\\\\\Rightarrow\text{Volume}=(4)/(3)(3.14)(12)^3\\\\\Rightarrow\text{Volume}=7234.56\ cm^3

Now, the approximate volume of water contained in the cylinder= Volume of cylinder - Volume of sphere

282600\ cm^3-7234.56\ cm^3=275365.44\ cm^3\approx275365\ cm^3
