The Declaration of Independence was adopted (signed by Thomas Jefferson in July 4, 1776). The thirteen colonies had a meeting in 1775 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It succeeded the first Continenal Congress. The Second Congress manager the colonial war effort and moved incrementally towards independence adopting the US Declaration of Independence
