Rearrange x+y=152 for either x or y and then substitute that new equation into 8.5x + 12y = 1656 and solve.

You can also elimination by multiplying the second equation by 12 in order to subtract the y's and get 3.5x=168, so x=48. Then you plug into the original to get y=152-48 or 104
