2x+5x+6=40

First you add the x's.
2x+5x=7x

7x+6=40
-6 -6
_________
7x= 34
/7 /7
______
x= 4.85714.......

Round that to 5.

So the answer is 5 if it's rounded. If it is not.. the answer is 4.875....

First combine like terms, 2x and 5x, to get 7x.
So 7x + 6 = 40

Then subtract 6 from both sides
So 7x = 34

Then divided 34 by 7
S0 x =34/7

Simplify to x = 4 6/7

I hope that helps! :3
