A restaurant has r reservations each hour except it's last hour, when it has 5 reservations. If the restaurant is open for six hours and has a total of 55 reservations how many reservations r does the restaurant have each hour?

r = 55 total reservations - 5 reservations from the last hour / 5 hours

R = 55 -5 / 5

r = 10

5r+5=55 is the equation. First subtract 5 from 55 and you get 50. The equation is now 5r=50. Now divide 50 by 5 and you get r= 10. So 10 reservations per hour.
