use the distributive property 2(A-3) + 5A = 8(A-1)
2(A) + 2(-3) +5A = 8(A) + 8(-1)
2A - 6 + 5A = 8A - 8
Combine like terms 7A - 6 = 8A - 8
isolate the variable -7A -7A
new equation -6 = A -8
add 8 to both sides +8 +8
answer 2 = A
