A cone-shaped piece of baker’s chocolate has a radius of 3 cm and a height of 9 cm. Samia shaves off some of the chocolate. The remaining piece is still shaped like a cone with a radius of 3 cm, but the height is 6 cm.

How much chocolate did Samia shave off?
Use 3.14 to approximate pi and express your final answer in hundredths.

Alrighty, let's find the volume of the cylinder post-Samia and after.

The equation for the volume of a cone is
V_(cone)=(1)/(3)\pi r^(2)h

BEFORE:

V_(cone)=(1)/(3)\pi 9*9 = 27*3.14 = 75.36

AFTER:

V_(cone)=(1)/(3)\pi 9*6 = 18*3.14= 56.52

And now to find out how much was taken off:

75.36-56.52=18.84
