The side opposite the 30 degree angle is half of the hypotenuse.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 =>

a^2 + (c/2)^2 = c^2
12^2 + c^2/4 = c^2
4*12^2 + c^2 - 4c^2 = 0
576 - 3c^2 = 0
- 3c^2 = - 576
c^2 = 192
c = 8√3
