Mihrab (niche) Another essential element of a mosque's architecture is a mihrab—a niche in the wall that indicates the direction of Mecca, towards which all Muslims pray. ... The direction of Mecca is called the qibla, and so the wall in which the mihrab is set is called the qibla wall.

(TO INDICATE THE DIRECTION TO THE MECCA)

hope this helped (:

Answer:

Mihrab is a semi-circular niche in a mosque wall showing the qibla; that is, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca and thus the way that Muslims will face while praying. Originally the word mihrab had a non-religious meaning and literally denoted a special room in a house; a throne room in a palace, under the authority of others, indicates that the mihrab is "the most honorable position of rulers" and "the lord of places, the forehead and the most noble."
