The basic reason why the planets revolve around,or orbits ,the sun is that the gravity of the sun keeps them in the Earth because of the pull of Earths gravity,the Earth orbits the Sun because of the pull of the suns gravity

It is because of massive nature of the Sun, it exerts very high Gravitational force on the Earth, more than any other heavenly body in the space
