If 7 is added to a number and the sum is doubled, the result is -2 less than the number. find the number?

This can be represented by the equation:
(x+7)2=x-2.

All you have to do now is solve for x.
(x+7)2=x-2
2x+14=x-2
2x=x-16
2x-x=-16
x=-16

Therefore, the number is -16.
