The correct answer is B) Its politics focused on the bid for statehood.

What is true of New Mexico at the beginning of the 20th century was that its politics focused on the bid for statehood.

Not all the people of New Mexico were in favor of statehood. Rich people, landowners, and traders thought that statehood would mean more and higher taxes. The had many advantages with a corruptive territorial government. Local people and Hispanics were more interested in statehood because that way they could elect their authorities. They were the minority but that never stopped them for demanding this right. After many struggles, William Taft announced the admission of New Mexico as a state of the Union on January 6, 1912.
