Answer:

(x,y) = (4,1)

Explanation:

This is a simultaneous equation

Let;

5x-2y=18 ..... equation 1

3x+3y=15 ..... equation 2

Divide equation 2 by 3

(3x)/(3) + (3y)/(3) = (15)/(3)

x + y = 5 ..... equation 3

multiply equation 3 by 2

2x + 2y = 10 ..... equation 4

Solving equations 1 and 4 simultaneously

5x-2y=18

2x + 2y = 10

Add equation 1 and equation 3

5x + 2x - 2y +2y = 18 + 10

7x = 28

Divide both sides by 7

(7x)/(7) = (28)/(7)

x = 4

substitute the value of x into equation 3

x + y = 5

4 + y = 5

collect like terms

y = 5 - 4

y = 1

Therefore (x,y) = (4,1)
