in this case, get the y in -5x+y=35 alone

y=5x+35

now substitute this into 3x+2y= -21

3x+2(5x+35)= -21

3x+10x+70= -21

13x=-91

3(-7)+2y= -21

-21+2y= -21

2y=0

y=0
