Gymnosperm in Latin
are
seed-bearing vascular plants
, such as cycads, ginkgo, yews and conifers, in which the ovules or seeds are not enclosed in an ovary. The word "
gymnosperm
" comes from the Greek word gymnosperms,
meaning
"naked seeds"
