You would turn the numerators (top numbers) into 9 and 23 as an improper fraction and subtract 9 over 2 and 23 over 6

First, you would convert each into an improper fraction by multiplying the whole number by the denominator and adding the numerator. This would equal 9/2-22/6. You then need to find a common denominator (which in this case is 6). You would multiply the denominator by 3 to get six and so the same to the numerator. This will equal 27/6-22/6. Then you would just subtract the numerators which equals 3/6 (simplified to 1/2). And that's all you have to do. Hope this helped :)
