de guy was Carl Friedrich Gauss, aka the prince of math
so he noticed that
1+100=101
2+99=101
etc
so there wer some pairs
how many?
there wer 100 numbers from 1 to 100 so
100/2=50
50 pairs
so then 101 times 50 pairs=5050 total
