Jan was charged a 5% tax rate for his blazer

To fin this we first must look at how much was actually charged in sales tax.

$39.90 - $38 = $1.90

Okay, so Jan was charged $1.90 sales tax. Now all we need to do is find out how much of a percentage $1.90 is of $38 or. another way to say it, how many much of $38, $1.90 will take up.

to do this we simply divide 1.9 into 38. So,

38 ÷ 1.9 = 20

This means that 1.9 goes into 38 twenty times. If that is the case, then our sales tax is 5%. This is because the percentage scale is based off a 1-100 scale and 20 of 100 is 5% because 5*20=100.

All of this just basically means that if we multiplied 1.9 * 20 we would get 38 which is 100% of 38 because 100% of a number is itself.

I hope this helped!!! Have a blessed day :))

39.90 - 38 = 1.90

1.90 / 38 = 0.05 = 5% sales tax rate <===
