The equation for the relation of sides of triangle can be obtained by similar triangle property.

Consider triangle ABC and triangle DBE.


\begin{gathered} \angle CAB=\angle EDA\text{ (Each angle is right angle)} \\ \angle CBA=\angle EBD\text{ (common angle)} \\ \Delta CBA\cong\Delta EBD\text{ (By AA similarity condition)} \end{gathered}

Determine the ratio of corresponding sides of simillar triangle.


(CB)/(EB)=(BA)/(BD)=(CA)/(ED)

Thus similar triangle property is used to set up the equation.
