Well simply add 5 to both sides, and then knowing the logarithm rules, subtracting logs of the same base essentially means dividing the logarithms. So it would become, log (X)(6x+1)/X = 7. Now the X values should cancel, leaving you with, log (6x+1) = 7, now knowing the base is not written we assume it is 10, and we take 10 raise it to the power of 7 and make it equal to 6x+1. 6x + 1 = 10 000 000, after solving, X should be 1,666,666.5 or 1.67 X 10^6. Check the solution by plugging in X into the question and seeing if it equals 2.
