A taxi starts from Monument Circle and travels 5 kilometers to the east for 5 minutes. Then it travels 10 kilometers to the south for 10 minutes.

What is the taxi moving with reference to? (Monument Circle, The passengers, The taxi driver)
What changes? (average speed, average velocity)
What stays the same? (average speed, average velocity, direction)

if youre looking for speed the equation would be distance/time

Answer:

Average Velocity changes

Average Speed Remains same

Step-by-step explanation:

As we know that average speed is the ratio of total distance moved by the object in given interval of time

So initially we know that the distance moved by the car is 5 km in 5 min towards East

So we have average velocity

v = (5)/(5) = 1 km/min Towards East

Now in other case it moved 10 km in next 10 min

so its average velocity is given as

v = (10)/(10) = 1 km/min Towards South

Since direction of motion changes here so Average velocity is changing while average speed will remain the same
