A standard showerhead in Reyna's house dispenses 9 gallons of water per minute. Reyna changed this showerhead to an energy-saving one. The equation shows the amount of water dispensed, y, as a function of the number of minutes, x, for the new showerhead.

y = 3x

How much water does Reyna save each day with the change in showerheads if she uses the shower for 8 minutes each day?

14 gallons
48 gallons
69 gallons
96 gallons

Answer:

The correct answer is 48....

Explanation:

When I first read this question, I thought it was asking me to do all this crazy stuff with 9, until I reread it and realized what it was really asking...

y=3x

y=3(8) - Multiply 3 x 8

y=24 - 24 isn't our answer, but if we continue to work our way up our inputs... 16 being our next input.

16 is our next input, because 8 + 8 = 16!!

y=3(16)

y=48

48 gallons... since the first shower head gives 9 gallons per minute you multiply 9 by 8 then you use the equation and multiply 3 by 8 then you subtract the two shower heads
