Why is society sympathetic towards cancer patients but not patients who have HIV??

People tend to think that HIV is caused and can be prevented , which it can be , but also some people don’t always know that they have caught HIV till it’s too late. Where as with cancer people are more sympathetic towards it because it’s your body one fighting it’s self and two it can not be helped , cancer is just something unlucky and hopefully if caught early can be caught somewhat early. So I’m my opinion people are more sympathetic towards cancer than HIV because cancer can’t be prevented where as HIV can
