Determine whether is a solution for:

\begin{gathered} 3x+5y=-17 \\ To\text{ determine if it's a solution, we can isolate y and see if the statement} \\ is\text{ true:} \\ 5y=-17-3x \\ y=-(17)/(5)-(3)/(5)x \end{gathered}

For, x=-8, y has to be 3:

\begin{gathered} y=-(17)/(5)-(3)/(5)(-8) \\ y=(7)/(5)=1.4 \end{gathered}

(-8, 3) is not a solution for the equation.

For x=-4, y has to be -1:

\begin{gathered} y=-(17)/(5)-(3)/(5)(-4) \\ y=-1 \end{gathered}

(-4, -1) is a solution for the equation.

For x=6, y has to be -7:

\begin{gathered} y=-(17)/(5)-(3)/(5)(6) \\ y=-7 \end{gathered}

(6, -7) is a solution for the equation.

For x=7, y has to be 2

\begin{gathered} y=-(17)/(5)-(3)/(5)(7) \\ y=-(38)/(5)=-7.6 \end{gathered}

(7, 2) is not a solution for the equation.
