d. y = x - 3; (1, -4). We can check if the ordered pair is a solution by plugging in the ordered pair into the equation and checking if it's true. If the equation is true, the ordered pair is a solution. If the equation is false, the ordered pair is not a solution. If you don't know, ordered pairs come in the form of (x, y), so in this ordered pair (1, -4), x is equal to 1, and y is equal to -4.

1. y = x - 3 : write the equation
2. (-4) = (1) - 3 : Plug the values of x and y into the equation using parentheses.
3. -4 = 1 - 3 : Remove the parentheses for simplicity.
4. -4 = -2 : Now simplify each side of the equation.
5. -4 != -2 : Check to see if the equation is true. -4 clearly doesn't equal -2, so the ordered pair is not a solution.

The question is y = x - 3; (1, -4). Inside the parenthesis, the ordered pair would be in the order of (x, y). You would plug the numbers into the equation at their correct spot, which would get you -4 = 1 - 3. Calculate it, and it would not work, because it gets you -4 = -2, which -2 is not equal to -4.
