how would the planets would be affected if the sun did not make up more than 99% of the mass of the entire solar system?

It would be too cold on earth, evaporation, photosynthesis, and life would not take place without thermal energy, or heat. The planets would not be able to orbit around anything if the size of the sun (which needs to be bigger than everything else around it) did not provide a pinpoint for the much needed gravity force.
