The Intentional Conference on population and Development was organised by UN in Cairo on 5-13 September 1994. More than 19000 delegates from various UN agencies, governments NGO and media came to have discussion on variety of issues that included infant mortality, birth control, family planning , immigration and prevention of unsafe abortion services . The meeting was widely discussed in the media due to the disputes regarding women's reproductive rights. Several Islamic nations and Holy See criticised it, conservatives also lambasted Bill Clinton for participating in the event.

The main topic of it was the problem of overpopulation in some countries of the world and how that should be addressed in order to prevent further growth to the extent that population outnumbers resources. Members of the conference also discussed about how the governments can implement measures to stop or at least decrease poputation growth.
