The term that denotes the spontaneous loss of a pregnancy 20 or more weeks after the pregnancy began is stillbirth. Often, the cause of a stillbirth or whether it could have been prevented is unknown. congenital anomalies, a premature birth, fetal growth restriction, medical condition of the mother can be some of the causes for stillbirth.

The spontaneous loss of a pregnancy 20 or more weeks into the pregnancy is known as a stillbirth. It is called a stillbirth because the fetus has passed away in the womb and is 'born' dead. A miscarriage is the loss of your baby before 20 weeks of pregnancy. An abortion is a forced termination of the pregnancy, it is not spontaneous.
