What is the combined meaning of the prefix and the root of the word remand?

To ask for
To ask again
To order again
To bring to order

The prefix re- is Latin in origin and means again. The root word -mand, also from Latin, means order. Together, the combined prefix re- and root word -mand would mean to order again.

Remand means to place someone on bail or in custody, espcecially when a trial is adjourned. So, you can think of the judge ordering someone to do something.
