State the vertical asymptote of the rational function.

f(x) = quantity x minus three times quantity x plus four divided by quantity x squared minus one.

x - 3(x + 4)
-------------
x^2 - 1

vertical asymptoes happen when the denominator = 0

x^2 - 1 = 0
so x = 1 or -1

so the asymptotes are x = -1 and x=1
