expand
distributive property
a(b+c)=ab+ac
so
-(x-4)=-1(x-4)=-1(x)-1(-4)=-x+4
now we has
2x-x+4=5
2x-1x+4=5
1x+4=5
minus 4 both sides
x+4-4=5-4
x+0=1
x=1
