The general equation for obtaining the factors of a quadratic equation is shown below,
x = ((-b +/- √(b² - 4ac)) / 2a
and from the given, a is 5, b is -41 and c is 42. Substituting this to the equation,
x1 = ((41 + √((-41)² - 4(5)(42)) / 2(5) = 7
and
x2 = ((41 - √((-41)² - 4(5)(42)) / 2(5) = 1.2
Thus, the factors are,
(n - 7)(n + 1.2)
